How to check for updates.
For Iphone
- Open the Settings app.
- Tap General.
- Tap Software Update.
- Your iPhone will check for updates and show you the status:
- If up-to-date, it will say "iOS is up to date".
- If an update is available, you'll see an option to Download and Install.
To enable automatic updates (recommended)
- In the Software Update screen, tap Automatic Updates.
- Turn on Automatically Download and/or Automatically Install for nightly updates over Wi-Fi.
For Android
- Open Settings: Find and tap the Settings app icon on your phone.
- Navigate to System: Scroll down and tap on System (or sometimes About phone).
- Find Update Section: Tap Software update, System update, or System & updates.
- Check for Updates: Tap the button to Check for updates or Download & install.
What You'll See
- "Your software is up to date": Means you have the latest available for your device.
- Download/Install Prompt: If an update is ready, you'll see options to download and install it.
- Android Version: You'll see your current Android version and security update status in Settings > About phone.
Types of Updates
- Android Version Updates: Major new Android releases (like Android 16).
- Security Patches: Monthly security fixes.
- Google Play System Updates: Important security and performance updates via the Play Store.
Note: Update availability depends on your phone manufacturer (Samsung, Pixel, etc.) and model, with Pixel phones often getting updates first. Connect to Wi-Fi and ensure your phone is charged before updating.
